How may a former student ever comprehend or appreciate the full extent of an extraordinary professor’s influence? All I can say is that Pat Miller’s was enormous. That was true of the faithful witness he bore among us as our teacher in the classroom and of the personal encouragement he extended and which I have carried with me through all the years. In my last visit with him not long before his death, he remained as much interested in what was happening in my life as when I was his fledgling student at Union Seminary. Conversation flowed so easily with Pat, and his gratitude for friendship never ceased. His gentle warmth and confident presence were monumental. I give thanks to God for Pat Miller and know without a shadow of doubt that he dwells among the company of angels who keep watch over the creation, as surely as he dwells with the Good Shepherd who keeps watch over the sheep.
